Grill-Friends Night Out – Girls’ Guide to Grilling

Hey “Grill-friend”, how about a beginning course on grilling basics? Working on both gas and charcoal grills, this ladies-night only session is for “wannabe flamers.”  Nancy’s dishes are simple and tasty for confidence in preparing three entrées: Asian Flank Steak with Sesame Noodles, Marinated Chicken Breasts with Grilled Vegetables and The Ultimate Hamburger. Grilled Fruit serves as the finale.

Leanne captures the full flavors of market fresh vegetables when she features the season’s bounty in her culinary spotlight of spectacular “sides.”  Leanne’s reputation for updating new variations doesn’t disappoint with her Summer Greens with Sweet Onions and Dried Sour Cherries, Tomato Gratinee with Fresh Herbs, Southwest Summer Corn Hash, Green Beans with Crunchy Peanut-Lemon Coating and Zucchini-Mint Croquettes.

Explore Asian Markets on a field trip to Seattle’s Asian Markets. Spend a day walking in Seattle’s International District with BSC Thai Instructor Pranee Halvorsen Khruasanit and visiting her favorite shopping stops for South Asian ingredients and imports. With Pranee as your guide, you’ll tour produce departments, discover unusual seafood, check out staple items for a stocked Asian pantry and learn how to select the freshest premium produce. Day package includes: Morning Travel Beverage, Round Trip Transportation from Bayview Thriftway, Vietnamese Lunch at Saigon Bistro, Walking Tour of International District with a final stop at Uwajimaya Market. $95.

Pat Leslie opens the BSC kitchen as your hostess for a free program with demonstrations, tastings and sage advice about cooking techniques, nutrition, recipes, ingredients, food storage and safety. This month features how to use and store bumper crops of corn, zucchini, string beans, tomatoes, and more. Join Pat for a fun morning out on the second floor mezzanine.

Pizza on the Grill

Enjoy America’s favorite food – Pizza – by firing up the grill instead of the kitchen oven.  This hands-on class takes students outdoors for al fresco pizza with Christine’s simple-to-make dough and her grilling directions. Your “take-out” pizza order includes: Double Mushroom Sausage Pizza, Rosemary-Crusted Pizza with Roasted Garlic, Olives, Mozzerella, Basil, Pancetta and Goat Cheese, Pizza Verdura & Formaggi (four cheeses and roasted vegetables).  Chianti anyone?

Draw from Italy’s green and red color palette in August’s garden with prolific basil, vine ripened tomatoes and leafy spinach as Christine prepares them in summer sauces for easy grilled dinner entrées.  Delight in her fresh Tomato-Basil Sauce with Grilled Sausage, Classic Pesto-Crusted Grilled Salmon, a Spinach Mascarpone Cream Sauce with Pasta, and her cool Tomato and Arugula Pasta Salad.  Complete the table artistry with red or white vino!

Squash your fears and then some with new delectable solutions for this late summer vegetable that inundates us this time of year.  Chef Dianna illustrates zucchini’s versatility with Chèvre Goat Cheese Stuffed Zucchini Blossoms, Papoutsakia (stuffed zucchini with savory beef), and Herb Zucchini Fritters with Green Chili Aioli.

Fridays Uncorked: The Essence of Prosecco & Cava

It’s patio sipping with trendy chilled Italian and Spanish sparkling wines that pair ideally with the heat and fresh fruit this season.  Discover a new wave of valued and increasingly fashionable thirst quenchers with wine enthusiasts.  “Wine down” on the Sound when we move our casual, comparative wine tasting outside to the deck of Bayview Thriftway (weather permitting) for a relaxing evening of wine sampling complete with a summer sunset! On-going pourings allow you to arrive anytime between 5-7:30 p.m. to sample 5-6 wines with selected complementary cheeses. $12.

 (NOTE: Deli service available until 8 p.m. for patio deck dining. Try Bayview’s signature grilled Panini Sandwiches or Dinner Specials for some TGIF noshing at one of the city’s most coveted outdoor harbor spots!)

The Simple Pleasures of Greek Food

Chef Yanni’s Greek menu boasts all the native flavors of his traditional food but requires minimal prep on a balmy summer eve.  The headliner is Chef’s own signature dish, Chef Yanni’s Chicken Pasta with Zucchini, Tomato and Basil, accompanied by Green Beans with Feta Cheese, a Chilled Beet Salad and a quick and easy dessert of Yogurt, Walnut and Honey.

Nancy’s culinary book selection this month is an “enchanting tale of love, family and renewal that illuminates the magical qualities of Persian Cuisine.”  A beautiful story from Iran to Ireland, the book captures the flavors of both cultures as Nancy prepares the book’s recipes: Dolmatis, Lavash Bread, Pomegranate Soup and Baklava!
